Sing To The King! 1 Chronicles 9:33

The musicians and Levite family leaders stayed in rooms at the sanctuary and were exempt from other duties, for day and night they had to carry out their assigned tasks. 1 Chron 9:33

What an interesting verse we have here. So I play in the band at church, and I absolutely love it. I love leading worship, praising the Lord through song and being an instrument of the Lord’s Spirit helping to bring the congregation into an attitude of worship and praise. I love the bonds of loving friendship and Christian brotherhood that exists between the members of the band. Somewhat similarly, during the time of the Chronicles, the time of the Kings of Israel and the Temple, there were musicians that played in the Temple to help create an atmosphere for worship. The interesting thing is that the musicians had such a special job, such a big responsibility that they were exempt from all responsibilities because they were to focus on playing day and night…nothing else.

That’s cool to think about, right? That these musicians were to focus solely on their music and playing for the Lord. Whether you are in a church band, praise and worship band, choir, whatever…if you sing in church on Sunday, you are part of the band!! Next time as you are singing, think about how special praise and worship music is that in the Scriptures the musicians were exempt from everything else but praise and worship. Now that is cool!!
